Pet Classes

These classes are to help handlers acquire the skills to train their dogs to be well behaved pets and companions.

Puppy
Designed for puppies 9 weeks through 6 months. Instructional lectures are included. If divided, Puppy 1 is for younger puppies, Puppy 2 is for older puppies.

Class limit: 12


SPOT 

For dogs that have successfully completed a Beginner class. This class concentrates on fun and communication between the dog and handler and increasing basic obedience skills while learning and perfecting the skills needed to pass the UKC Socialized Pet Obedience Test (SPOT). At the conclusion of this class dogs will be tested for the SPOT test by a UKC approved evaluator.

Backyard Agility

No dogs under one year of age and dogs must have successfully completed a Beginning Obedience class. Teams learn to play agility in their backyard. Teach your dog new fun skills and learn creative ideas on how to make your own equipment from things around the house. Fun stuff!

Beginning

For dogs 6 months and older. This class is designed to teach you to train your dog in basic obedience skills like: sit, down, come, stay, heel, etc. or to review and strengthen what they already know. Socializing your dog in a class situation is an added benefit.

Beyond Beginning

We will expand on the Beginning curriculum, and introduce new dog behaviors through games and play, as well as traditional training methods. Learn to communicate more clearly and have a better relationship with your dog.

CGC/A
For dogs that have successfully completed Beginning class, this class concentrates on fun & motivation, communication & increasing basic skills, and testing the dog’s skills in a natural setting. For example, rather than the dog being tested in a ring, the “walks through crowd” test item will involve the dog walking through a real crowd at a dog show, on a busy sidewalk, at a training club or in a local park. Dogs who pass are eligibile to earn AKC’s “CGC” or “CGCA” title. To earn the CGC or CGCA title, the dog must 1) be registered or listed with AKC (AKC number, PAL, or AKC Caanine Partners number) and, 2) complete the process to earn a Canine Good Citizen award/title OR already have a Canine Good Citizen award/title on record. This class is for both CGC and CGCA participants.

Competitive Obedience Classes

These classes are designed to teach the handler and dog the skills necessary to enter the obedience show ring.

Competitive Games
A class that teaches, proofs, builds drive and guarantees fun training for you and your canine companion. Learn games that revolve around all the OB exercises including stand stays, and group stays. For all levels.
Class Limit: 8


Rally
Is a newer obedience sport, where the dog and the handler maneuver through a course of stations (signs) in numerical order. Each sign indicates a specific behavioral skill. This class will teach you and your dog how to successfully navigate a course. Rally has 3 levels (Novice, Advanced, and Excellent) and students at different levels may be in the same class. Rally competition is offered by several registries including: AKC, UKC, ASCA, CKC.

Nosework
This class provides an introduction to nosework including how to read your dog, reinforce your dog’s indication, motivation, and handling skills. Dogs will be worked individually. Please bring a crate for your dog so you can observe other handlers and dogs during class. Nosework is a great sport for building confidence and teamwork in dogs and handlers.

Team Level 1
This class teaches foundation skills for competition obedience, Novice – Utility. New teams are welcome. Dogs should be food or toy motivated and comfortable in a class setting. Motivational and positive reinforcement training methods will be used.
